Use Your Head, Help Others Use Theirs

The past week was pretty eventful in the political scenes of both Nigeria and the disUnited Kingdom, what with Governor Fayose's antics and David Cameron's fantastically disappointing gaffe. Both incidences showed clearly that we have more ignorant people in the world today than we have knowledgeable people.

Or how would you explain how the British and Welsh voted out of the European Union because they assumed it would automatically mean an end to migrants within "their country"? How would you explain the fact that the google searches for EU referendum soared AFTER the elections had taken place? My dear friend was racially insulted on her way to work last week, just after the elections. She's as British as British comes but she has a black skin and thus some moron felt it was alright to tell her to go back to where she's come from. WTF?

Take a look at the video below and brace yourselves to be blown by how people reason.

Over here in Nigeria, we aren't much better to be honest. How can the governor of a state have N1.2 BILLION in one personal account when thousands are suffering from poverty, malnourishment, hunger, illnesses in his own state? How did our poltrickcians become so detached from the plight of those whom they swore to serve and protect? I heard about the case of the hungry man in Ekiti State, who had no money left because they haven't been paid in months. He watched his neighbour prepare amala and as soon as her back was turned, he stole the pot of amala and absconded.  When he was caught, they found him feeding his kids with the stolen amala and palomino for stew. Palmoil!!!! Yet, the governor still thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread.

The ignorance of Nigerians are obvious in the ways by which they defend these rogue politrickcians without properly taking into account the extent of their nefarious looting and escapades.  I had a driver from Ekiti state hailing me the other day and when someone pointed out to him about the shenanigans of the Governor, he rose to his defence. I was like " say what"? I went ahead to give him a point or two and the next thing he said was " oh really? I shouldn't support Fayose because he isn't all that, right? You're correct, I just go with the flow so if you say he isn't good enough for the people, then that's what I will believe and say too"! I was gobsmacked because this is a grown man we are talking about here. A man old and grown enough to know better, to read or research for himself, yet he is depending on people's opinion to form his. Actually, he is depending on the opinion of others to make them his. Sigh.

Sheer ignorance would be our undoing if we do not read, research and teach others as well. If you are learned and you do not share what you know and ensure they understand it properly, then you are in the same sinking ship.

Watch How Far The Japanese Take Science

Wow. Watch how far the Japanese have come with science. Some young students hatched a chick without a shell. I was full of awe and admiration watching this amazing achievement of these kids. I mean so long as science is not used to wipe out the world or destroy or hurt people, I am totally cool with it.

The video did leave my heart heavy for my dear Nigeria because I kept wondering hw long it would take us to catch up with such things when we (and i use the term "we" loosely here) are celebrating the fact that we would be producing PENCILS come year 2020!!!!

Sigh.

Enjoy the video and share your thoughts on it.

Do have a splendid day ahead.

(Yessssssss, the weekend is almost here. I can smell it, lol)

You Are Worth So Much More

Happy new week everyone. I hope you all had a restful weekend and prepared for the beautiful week ahead.

Let me remind you before you start your week that you are worth so much more than to put up with poppycock and insults from others. Believe me when I say that because even though people may try to put you down and make you feel small, you are indeed worth so much more.

Last night, le hubbs popped out to the ATM and while he was out, his siblings came by the house to drop of my troops whom they'd taken out for ice-cream. I called him to inform him of their arrival and I noticed there was a lot of noise in the background so I worriedly asked him if all was well. He hurriedly explained that there was a bit of a situation at our junction involving a man who was slapping and attempting to beat up his wife!!! Say what now? The poor woman had a baby on her back and was holding another child yet her horsebind husband could not see past his myopic stupidity and wickedness as he pummelled her in public over the flimsiest reasons.

The man was drunk, their car had broken down and he took out his frustrations on the poor lady. Le hubbs said he had to shove the bugger off the woman and had to thoroughly control himself not to whoop his ass. "Errm, you should have kicked his ass real good", I bellowed. I asked him if I could come join him but he wouldn't let me, saying all was under control. Ok o. Some people put the woman and her kids in a vehicle and took them home leaving behind the masochistic husband.

Day by day, we hear of different stories of men battering their wives and so e even to death, and I keep asking WHY? Why do women put up with it? Why do they stay and take crap from the ones who should be protecting and loving them endlessly? Why do they subject their children to witnessing such violence, thus risking the chance of the continuous spinning of the vicious circle of domestic violence?

I don't care what the society says or feels about separation or divorce, but if your spouse disrespects you, loathes you enough to hit you, then you better up and leave with your life intact. LOVE DOES NOT HURT. Once you're in a relationship and it starts to hurt, then love has exited and you need to exit too. Alone, we each came into this world and alone we would depart so your destiny isn't tied to another's especially one who beats you up and hurts you.

Know your self worth and leave any toxic relationship you find yourself in. Love yourself and you will be just fine.

Have a splendid week ahead.

Brain Teaser: Test Your Mind

To Check Your Presence of mind.............Take this TEST.

Relax, Clear Your Mind and Begin, What's the 1st answer that comes to your mind???...........

1. What do you put in a toaster?

Answer:
"Bread." If you said "toast," give up now and do something else.. Try not to hurt yourself. If you said bread, go to Question 2

2. Say "silk" five times. Now spell "silk." What do cows drink?

Answer:
Cows drink water. If you said "milk," don't attempt the next question.
Your brain is over -stressed and may even overheat. Content yourself by reading more appropriate literature such as Auto World.

However, if you said "water", proceed to question 3...

3. If a red house is made from red bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green house made from?

Answer:
Greenhouses are made from glass. If you said "green bricks," why the hell are you still reading these?? If you said "glass," go on to Question 4.

4. It's twenty years ago, and a plane crashes from 20,000 feet over Germany (If you will recall, Germany at the time was politically divided into East and West Germany) Where would you bury the survivors? East Germany, West Germany, "no man's land"?

Answer: You don't bury survivors!!! If you said ANYTHING else, you must stop. If you said, "You don't bury survivors", proceed to the next question.

5. Without using a calculator - You are driving a bus from Mumbai to Pune. In Mumbai , 17 people get on, in Pune , 16 get off. Name the driver.

Answer: Oh, for crying out loud! Don't you remember your own name? It was YOU!!

A MUST TRY!!!!!!! ALZHEIMERS'  EYE TEST (I love this part.. It's absolutely amazing!)

Count every  "F" in the following text:

FINISHED  FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED  WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS...

(SEE  BELOW)

HOW MANY ? 3....4....?

WRONG,  THERE ARE  6  --  no joke. READ IT AGAIN !

Really, go Back and Try to find the  6 F's before you scroll down. The reasoning behind is because the brain cannot  process "OF". Incredible  or what? Go back and look again!!

Anyone who counts  all 6 "F's" on the first go is a genius. Three  is normal, four is quite rare. :)

Oh Boy! What A Narrow Escape For This Child.

People always say that the angels that watch over children certainly work overtime, mostly. This is because the sort of danger kids put themselves in and how they get out of it cannot be explained or understood by mere mortals.

It is nothing short of a miracle how doctors in India managed to save the life and eye of a 12-year-old which had been pierced by a butcher's iron hook while he as playing. The iron hook went through his eye and then through his brain but by a stroke of luck or guardian angel dust, his eyeball remained undamaged as was his brain.

Thanks to the amazing surgeons, doctors and medical crew at the Osmania General Hospital who operated on the boy swiftly and with so much expertise and care. Even better is the fact that they performed the surgery for free, knowing that the boy's parents would not be able to afford the cost of the surgery, which could have cost about 100,000 rupees or $1,000.

What Will You Leave Behind?

Hello everyone, I trust we are all doing great? I apologise for my absence in the past couple of days, my work schedule has been crazily packed but all is under control. I do try to write at least one post a day but even that is getting more difficult to do. I miss writing but I made a choice to change the course of my career path slightly because I wanted to have tougher challenges and tougher challenges I am getting now so I can't complain, lol. I will ensure I write more and better for you  all and for myself. Please bear with me. :)

I did not get to hear about OJB Jezreel's death until much later in the evening of the 14th of June. OJB was a talented musician, songwriter and producer whose real name was Babatunde Okungbowa. He had had a kidney transplant about three years ago but eventually succumbed to the disease two days ago. Very tragic.

Below is one of his most popular songs which I absolutely love. This song kept me sane during my National Youth Service year and through my sojourn to England. I still have it on my antique iPod and I listen to it every now and then. It's shocking at the number of "celebs" we have lost this year already and it's just June. Sigh. Do your best to leave pleasant memories and stories behind for the world before you pass away for all men will die some day. (Valar Morghulis)

Rest in peace OJB Jezreel. Thank you for making such unforgettable music.

Don't Lose Focus

The path towards success is never smooth, don't let facades faze you into thinking otherwise. What helps you in succeeding is your doggedness and you staying focused on what truly matters rather than being derailed by the mundane or even by opinions of others.

Help others up whenever you can and do not put others down, even if you can't help it.

Have a great week ahead and don't forget to FOCUS on what truly matters.

Never Negotiate With Terrorists

In my own opinion, negotiating with terrorists is a recipe for disaster and any leader of a country who finds himself or herself caught up in such a situation would be better off looking for an alternative rather than succumbing. It never ends well for the citizens, these things don't. When terrorists, under the guise of freedom fighters looking to get the oil companies to fix the Niger Delta, were blowing up the regions and creating a general nuisance of themselves, the Federal Government at the time thought it would be a good idea to give them a soft landing by asking them to drop their weapons and then enticed them with the Amnesty programme; which to me was more about giving off huge sums to a few of the terrorists, using them as national guards and sending a few of them out of the country on trainings.

Now they are back with more ridiculous demands, holding Nigerians to ransom. Find below some of their crazy threats and demands:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The joint revolutionary council of the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF), which claims to be the highest organ of “all the freedom fighting body” in the Niger Delta, has declared a ceasefire. The group had earlier threatened to launch six missiles in the region and to also shut Nigeria’s airspace, but it said it decided to do otherwise after the Federal Government offered to dialogue. However, JNDLF said government would have to comply with its demand if it wants the momentary peace to be sustained.

Some of the group’s demands are the immediate release of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA), reversal of the order to freeze the bank accounts of Government Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo, establishment of Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Delta state, among others. The group said Niger Delta governors are its representatives and threatened “to go after them if they betray the region”. They said: “We shall continue to engage in dialogue if our demands are met. Our representatives for the dialogue, especially the governors and others will not betray our demands with the federal government. Any betrayal on their own part shall be viewed as betrayal of the entire region and we shall go after them immediately as they know our mode of operation inwhich they will not escape from us,”

JNDLF  further said in a statement, “There is no gainsaying that we made our earlier promise to launch six missiles simultaneously againstsome targeted areas. But this was waved aside as a result of appeals made to us through email by the federal government and some international nations to open talks with Buhari. We saw some genuine aspiration on the part of Buhari, who made several contacts to us to see reason with them over the issue of under-development of the region. And since he (Buhari) had set the ball rolling for a clear negotiation with us, there is no problem without solution. We have therefore declared ceasefire in order to negotiate with the government if it is a true reflection of what they have in mind to develop the Niger Delta region.” The group said it was more interested in negotiating with the government on the basis of developing the Niger Delta rather than giving out monetary compensation. It also demanded the implementation of the report of the 2014 national conference, and the removal of Paul Boroh, coordinator of the presidential amnesty programme. “We are not ready to negotiate with the Federal Government for the sake of monetary benefit to us but how genuinely the government will develop the region is at the centre of our discussion and anything less than that we will continue our struggle without further warning to the federal government,” the statement read. “We demand the immediate implementation of the report of the 2014 national conference report, failure of which Nigeria will forcefully break-up. Oil-polluted lands in the Niger Delta must be cleaned up, while compensation should be paid to all oil-producing communities, e.g. Chevron fire outbreak of gas explosion in Koluama, Bayelsa state and Bonga Oil Spill in 2011. We also demand the immediate release of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd) and Dr. Nnamdi Kanu.“We also want the removal of Brigadier General Paul Boroh (rtd.) as  Amnesty Coordinator. He does not understand the programmes and policies of the Amnesty and does not know us to the grassroots. Hence he should be replaced with Dr. Felix Tuodolo who has been in the struggle of non-violence since 1980 and he was the designer of the amnesty programme.“We carried out all these attacks on oil and gas pipelines in the region because of the statement made by President Buhari that he will develop those areas that gave him 95% votes during his presidential election last year. We, the Niger Delta people only gave him 5% hence we vowed that our oil moneywill not be used for the development of any other region.”

Despite the declaration of the JNDLF, the Niger Delta Avengers, the group which has led the attackson oil installations since the resurgence of militancy, blew up pipelines in Bayelsa state on Friday.

When Arts Come Alive

A few days ago, a family friend of ours from way back in Luton added me to a Facebook page run by her daughter. I curiously clicked on it and I was blown away by the amount of talent I saw there. You see, Temi Danso is a young and amazing artist and below are a few of her works. I like art and I appreciate art and artists a lot and I used to collect art at some point in my life. My mum still has some kept for me even,  and I do hope to start collecting again soon.

I am indeed thrilled by her skills moreso because I cannot even draw a straight line to save my life, lol. I showed my daughter some of Temi's videos of her drawing and she immediately picked up a pen and scribbled this, hehehehe. Seems like I got a Picasso on my hands. I can only imagine how proud of Temi her parents are, because I swelled with pride at my daughter's scribbles. LOL.

So back to Temi, an absolutely talented and fantastic young lady she is. You can view some of her works here and check out the one below as well. She's @Temi_Danso on Twitter if you want to follow her and keep up with her awesome drawings.

Putting Loot To Profitable Use

Given the economic situation in the country, the Federal Government had made arrangement to turn the properties seized from the treasury looters into government offices. The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has said that the Federal Government plans to relocate some of its Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDA) into some recovered looted properties. Mrs. Adeosun said this on Friday in Abuja after the Steering Committee of the Efficiency Unit meeting. The government says in the last one year it has seized billions of Naira in cash and properties from corrupt public officials.

The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers had been advocating for adequate utilisation of confiscated properties. Mrs. Adeosun said the move to relocate the agencies was to reduce waste since the properties were empty. “The issuance of price guidelines and initiatives for reducing expenditure on rent on office and residential buildings will be the primary focus areas of the efficiency unit in coming months.“ You may want to know that the average annual expenditure on rent for a three year period of 2012 to 2014 was N3.55 billion. And to achieve that, we are already looking at using properties that were forfeited from recoveries and moving some of our agencies to occupy those properties rather than paying rent,’’ she said.

Mrs. Adeosun said the Efficiency unit had already recorded success in cutting government overhead cost in areas such as travels, welfare, honorarium, sitting allowance, training, adverts and publicity as well as refreshments. “Major savings are expected when on-going engagement with the Bureau of Public Procurement on the pooling of MDAs demands for standard products such as vehicles, computers, diesel and others. “We plan to secure large discounts from suppliers and the issuance of Price Guidelines are developed and implemented. Price Guidelines will ensure uniformity in the price at which MDAs purchase items, as well as transparency and value for money in the procurement process.’’

Mrs. Adeosun said she was working with states to ensure that they all established Efficiency Unit since 47.32 per cent of revenue that accrued to the federation goes to the States and local governments. President Buhari had set up the Efficiency Unit to review all Federal Government’s overhead expenditure to reduce wastage, promote efficiency and ensure quantifiable savings for the country. The Minister of Finance, Head of Service of the Federation, Accountant-General of the Federation, Auditor-General of the Federation and Director, Budget Office of the Federation are members of the committee.

Amazing Dance Video

Thank God It's Friday!!!! Yup, we have run through another week and now it's Fri-Yay! I'm so happy the weekend is upon us, even though I will be working tomorrow, but at least I don't have to be up at 4am as usual.

I came across the video below of a few kids dancing to Cut It by Genesis led by Kida The Great and every time I watch the video, it gives me a buzz. You see, dancing is one of my favourite pastimes and it pleases me not only to dance but to watch others dance. These kids nailed it down.

I did a bit of research and discovered that Kida The Great comes from a background of professional dancers and they recently auditioned on the tv show "So You Think You Can Dance". I don't know how far he's gone but I know he would go places.

When the Going is Smooth & Good

I grew up loving this song by William Onyeabor - When the Going is Smooth & Good, and I recall my folks playing them on their turntable (youths, don't ask me what a turntable is, lol). Very beautiful and impactful song with great beats and rhythms.

The lyrics are pretty apt and still relevant till date, even more so. When the going is smooth and good, very many people will want to be your friend but when tables turn (no pun intended), you will realoise that na only you waka come.

Stay wary of fair-weather friends but be the best friend you can be to those you know and meet.

Enjoy the music and have a good day ahead.

Stephen Keshi Passes On

On my radar this morning, Stephen Ikechukwu Keshi, Nigeria's former Super Eagles coach, captain and football icon has passed on at the age of 54-years after complaining of heart beat irregularities. He is said to have died in a hospital in Benin City in the early hours of today, even though he had no prior heart condition.

Only two men have ever won the Africa Cup of Nations as a player and coach and Stephen Keshi is one of them. Over the 20-year period of his footie career, he played briefly in France, Belgium, the U.S.A and in Malaysia.

He is survived by his four children and mother, as he lost his wife to cancer just last year. What a tragedy.

Rest in peace "Big Boss" Coach Keshi.

Rise And Shine, It's A Beautiful Day

Rise and shine as a new day shines through, determined and knowing that whatever storms life brews and throws your way, you will overcome and rise above them.

I always tell people that I don't just put a 100% into my job, I put in a 150% as best as I know how and I treat my jobs like I would my own business, utterly dedicatedly. That's how everyone should act towards their jobs and towards life generally, doing whatsoever your hands finds to do brilliantly and as best as you can. So don't slack off this week, but work hard and work right.

Live, love, smile, be happy and be #AllHeartsAlways :)

When Beasts Roam The Earth.

I came across this video this morning and it is about the most difficult thing I've ever had to watch and read. It left my tummy physically hurting by the time I got to the end. In the video, a Congolese Human Rights Activist, Rebecca Masika, recounted her horrific experience in the hands of some war demons. I say demons because I cannot fathom how a human would chop another human being alive, bit by bit, in front of his wife and then feed her with her husband's penis before over 22 of them raping her atop her husband's dismembered body while raping her young teenage daughters at the same time.

Oh Rebecca, poor Rebecca I am so sorry about your ordeal. Nobody should have to go through such, not all. Despite all she was subjected to, Rebecca went ahead to help and rehabilitate others who have been victims of rape. She set her hurts and pains aside and helped others get through theirs. This is highly commendable of her.

Unfortunately, reports show that Rebecca died last year from Malaria and High Blood Pressure. I hope the creatures that hurt her and her family like this would suffer worse fates a gazillion times here on earth and beyond.

Rest in peace strong woman, Rebecca Masika. :(

Brace yourselves before watching the video below.

Boxing, Daddy, Myself And Mohammed Ali

I can proudly say that my dad is one of my most dedicated blog visitors (thank you daddy:) and it delights me every time he gives me a feedback or tip about my blog. Yesterday, he commended me on the Mohammed Ali post and then sent the video below asking that I include it in my collection, bless.

My first introduction to Boxing as a sport was via watching with my dad when I was much younger and even though I hated the violence and all it represented, I still watched it because I cherished those "us" moments watching tv with my dad and sometimes discussing stuff while my siblings were doing chores or just chilling around the house. Let me just advise parents out there to make time out for their kids and give them beautiful memories to have and reflect on n their futures.

I'm sure a lot of you must have come across the video of Mohammed Ali giving profound answers to the question of what he intended to do after retirement, but here it is again for you to watch and share just because my dad wants you to see it again and learn from it. :)

Enjoy.

Many Are Mad, Few Are Roaming

I have been so out of touch with a whole lot of happenings around me recently, so you can imagine my shock at reading about a recent beheading in Kano over an alleged blaspheme. There were pictures of a decapitated head being paraded around a Northern town amidst claims that a woman had aggravated a Muslim passerby to the point of being accused of blasphemy and being beheaded. It made no sense to me to imagine that any human being would slaughter another over differences in religion.

As I probed further, I discovered that what was being gorily circulated was not what happened. From my findings, reports claim a 74-year-old woman who owns a store in Kano State in Northern Nigeria had asked a Muslim man not to perform his pre-prayer ablutions in front of her shop and that infuriated him to the point of raising a mob, accusing the poor old woman of blaspheming his Allah. The accused was beaten to death by a baying mob in front of her husband, who watched defencelessly as it all happened. There is absolutely no justification for what has happened and the government just has to find a way to ensure such never occurs again. We are all citizens of Nigeria, regardless of where we find ourselves residing within the country. Everyone SHOULD feel safe always rather than live in fear of being attacked over tribal or religious differences.

What would possess a person to bludgeon another person, albeit an old woman who had every right to ask him not to wash his feet in front of her shop? Why do some people feel the need to do the job of their Deity for them? How does refusal to allow feet washing translate into blasphemy and subsequently lead to murder? There's no buttering up the fact that that woman was brutally murdered in cold blood over a misconception which should never have been an issue but for religious fanaticism.

I am glad at how swiftly the State Government has acted in apprehending the a prime suspect in all of these. I hope the late Mrs. Bridget Patience will get justice, even in death. I hope all those involved would be apprehended, tried and punished for this dastardly act and for the trauma they have subjected the family of the victim to.

Rest in peace ma'am.

Awake And Immersed In Work And Music

I've been awake for about three hours now, for no particular reason. After I realised I couldn't get back to sleep, I decided to catch up with work and stuff online. Knowing I work better with music in my ears, I have been stuck on two songs for the past couple of hours. Just two songs and they have been giving me life.

One is KissDaniel's Mama and the other is SugarBoy's Hola Hola. I am totally loving these two songs right now. Love Love Love. I'm probably a bit late because I know the songs have been out for a few weeks but it is never too late to crush on great music, is it? :)

Now while a lot of Nigerian songs have absolutely rubbish lyrics, they almost always have great beats and rhythms. This Mama song is a cool blend of really mellow rhythms, meaningful and sometimes irrelevant lyrics. Works for me still, enough to purchase on iTunes. :)

#MusicIsEverything

Lyrics: KissDaniel - Mama
Feel the mama
You know I like you so oh
Girl i cherish you

But I fit lie for you oh oh
In the night

Baby all I seek I find it in you
All I seek I find it in you
If I’m to choose, girl I’ll choose you
If I’m to lose, girl I want to lose with you
Them say na taboo but girl I see truth in you

Shey wa korin fun mi, do you really care
Sho le pon mi fun mi baby

Anything for you

Girl i cherish you

I won’t lie to you
But I fit lie for you oh oh
In the night
Girl am down for you oh oh

Oya talk to me oh mama
Bo Lorun Soro mi dayo with you
Baby all I seek I find it in you
All I seek I find it in you
If I’m to shoot, girl I’ll shoot for you
Ain’t gan kill baby just a bullet wound
Prayed about you last night you came my way

Ha, eh omo baba alayo ni
If you buy infinity would you buy for me oh
When I make activity would you come for me oh
Stick it to the light and let me see your face
See your face
Girl i cherish you

I stand for you
I won’t lie to you
But I fit lie for you oh oh
In the night
Girl am down for you oh oh
Oya talk to me oh mama
Bo Lorun Soro mi dayo with you
Baby all I seek I find it in you
All I seek I find it in you
All I seek I find it in you

Mohammed Ali, The Greatest Passes On

I woke up to the news of Mohammed Ali's passing, how sad. He was rushed to a hospital outside Arizona during the week and while surrounded by his family members on Friday, passed away. Ali had suffered Parkinson's disease for several years now which most likely stemmed from the battering he received during his boxing days.

Sadly, he is no more now but he lives on. The uniqueness that was Mohammed Ali will make him remembered for years to come.

Rest In Peace, Ali.

Here are some legendary quotes from the greatest Mohammed Ali himself: (culled from DailyMail)

'Float like a butterfly, Sting like a bee, your hands can't hit, what your eyes can't see.' - Prior to his fight against Foreman in 1974.

'If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it – then I can achieve it.'

'I'm not the greatest; I'm the double greatest. Not only do I knock 'em out, I pick the round.'

'It's hard to be humble, when you're as great as I am.'

'To make America the greatest is my goal, so I beat the Russian and I beat the Pole. And for the USA won the medal of gold. The Greeks said you're better than the Cassius of old.' - He said this quote after he won the Olympic light-heavyweight gold medal at the 1960 Games in Rome.

'It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up.'

'Live every day like it's your last because someday you're going to be right.'

'A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted thirty years of his life.'

'I done wrestled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale, handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder in jail; only last week I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalized a brick. I'm so mean I make medicine sick.' - Ali said this before the historic Rumble in the Jungle match that took place in 1974 in Zaire against George Foreman.

'I am so fast that last night I turned off the light switch and was in bed before the room was dark.'

'Boxing is a lot of white men watching two black men beating each other up.'

'Cassius Clay is a slave name. I didn't choose it, and I didn't want it. I am Muhammad Ali, a free name, and I insist people using it when speaking to me and of me.'

'It will be a killer and a chiller and a thriller when I get the gorilla in Manila.' - Ali said this before the historic and legendary 'Thrilla in Manila' match against Joe Frazier in 1975.

'I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'

'Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even.'
'There are no pleasures in a fight, but some of my fights have been a pleasure to win.'

'I am the greatest, I'm the greatest that ever lived. I don't have a mark on my face.'  - Ali said this after he beat competitor Sonny Liston in 1964.

'Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.'

'Don't count the days; make the days count.'

'It's not bragging if you can back it up.'

'Champions aren't made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them: a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.' - Ali said this prior to a fight against George Foreman in 1974.

'At home I am a nice guy: but I don't want the world to know. Humble people, I've found, don't get very far.'

'If you even dream of beating me, you better wake up and apologize.'

'My way of joking is to tell the truth. That's the funniest joke in the world.'

'I am America. I am the part you won't recognize. But get used to me. Black, confident, cocky, my name not yours. My religion, not yours; my goals, my own; get used to me.' - Ali said this in 1970 when he was convicted of draft evasion.

'The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses—behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.'

'He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.'

'It's lack of faith that makes people afraid of meeting challenges, and I believed in myself.'
