It's been a very long yet intriguing journey but finally we are here at the victory point. The INEC Chairman, Professor Jega has
finally declared General Mohammed Buhari as the new president-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and he will sworn in on the 29th of May, 2015 all things being equal.
The incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan took the high road yesterday by conceding and giving the General a call to congratulate him on his victory. Note that this has never occurred before in the history of Nigeria and it is indeed a good precedent and development which others can emulate in the nearest future.
I must commend every Nigerian who gave their all to ensure that the elections ran as smoothly as possible without any major hitches. I also pray that the souls of those who lost their lives during this whole period would rest in perfect peace, especially those who were killed in the line of duty protecting the ballot boxes.
I know that surely, the General has a ginormous task ahead of him and it would take having a strong and sound team around him to clean up the mess that has been made in all the sectors of the country but I have no doubt in my mind about his ability to succeed. I tweeted yesterday about the fact that I feel General Buhari deserves a golden spot in the books of history beside Abraham Lincoln, for his determination to succeed as a democratic president in Nigeria and his perseverance over the years up until this point. It just goes to show that we must never give up on our dreams, come what may.
I hope we are all ready to help make things work and put Nigeria back in her place of pride and glory.
God bless Nigeria!
